Topic Essay

My topic is basically on how women fashion changed in the 1920s. I choose this topic because I wanted to do a project that interested me. Another reason I choose this topic is because I thought it would be fun and I could learn something at the same time.

During the early 1920s women gained the right to vote. This event played a major role in the fashion change. They felt as though they could show their power or freedom by changing their clothes. For years women basically hid their body with long dresses and other forms of clothing, but from the things that were changing such as voting and working on their own they no longer felt this way they felt as though they should dress, as they wanted.

Women no longer wore dresses that came to their ankles. Dresses were designed shorter and women even cut their hair into ‘Bobs’. A Bob was a short hair cut that originated in Paris.

Another reason way fashion change was because women no longer worked only in the house. Many more women were going out getting and getting jobs. They no longer depended on their husband to bring in the money. So to show independency they started dresses as working women and not housewives.

In conclusion women fashion changed in the early 20s because of many reasons. Most of the changes occurred from the pervious times such as women voting and working. I think that in the long run women changed for the better.
